State govt. to fill vacancies in Health Department in phases


The State government will fill vacancies in the Health Department in phases, Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said in the Legislative Council in Belagavi on Monday.

The department has already filled half the vacancies on contract basis. The rest will be filled on contract and through direct appointments, the Minister said.

He was responding to a question by member M.G. Mule.

The Minister said that the department had 69,915 vacancies, of which 37,045 have been filled and 32,870 are still vacant.

Of the vacant posts, not more than 75% of Group D posts will be filled through contracts and outsourcing, he said.

Recruitment in taluk and district hospitals will be made in consultation with the Deputy Commissioners. The Finance Department’s permission has been sought to fill vacancies of specialist doctors and general duty medical officers on contract basis subject to certain conditions, he said.

As many as 100 specialist doctors with post-graduate studies and 120 MBBS doctors will be appointed on contract immediately. Regular appointments will follow, the Minister said.

Medical graduates and post-graduates who will join the compulsory service will be deputed against vacancies, he said.

The process of filling 400 posts of pharmacy officers, 150 posts of junior medical officers, 150 posts of laboratory technical officers and eight posts of radiology imaging officers under direct recruitment is in progress, he said and added that the original documents of the candidates are currently being verified.

The services of 200 Junior Laboratory Technical Officers and 400 Pharmacy Officers will be outsourced, till the posts are filled through regular recruitment, he said.

As many as 320 posts will be filled in the Kalyan Karnataka region. A proposal to fill 9,871 vacant para-medical posts in the department is under consideration of the Finance Department. It will be taken up after approval, he said.
