‘Stung and stunned’: PM Modi lists Congress ‘sins’ against Ambedkar, defends Amit Shah | India News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday countered Congress after it accused Union minister Amit Shah of “insulting” Dr BR Ambedkar in Rajya Sabha during his speech.
In a series of social media posts on X, PM Modi listed “sins” of Congress against Ambedkar and said that the party has indulged in “every dirty trick to obliterate the legacy of Ambedkar and humiliate SC/ST communities”.
“If the Congress and its rotten ecosystem think their malicious lies can hide their misdeeds of several years, especially their insult towards Dr. Ambedkar, they are gravely mistaken! The people of India have seen time and again how one Party, led by one dynasty, has indulged in every possible dirty trick to obliterate the legacy of Dr. Ambedkar and humiliate the SC/ST communities,” PM Modi said.
“The list of the Congress’ sins towards Dr. Ambedkar includes: Getting him defeated in elections not once but twice. Pandit Nehru campaigning against him and making his loss a prestige issue. Denying him a Bharat Ratna. Denying his portrait a place of pride in Parliament’s Central Hall,” he added.
PM Modi also defended Union home minister Amit Shah and said that the grand-old-party is “stung and stunned” by the facts he presented in Rajya Sabha.
“In Parliament, Amit Shah Ji exposed the Congress’ dark history of insulting Dr. Ambedkar and ignoring the SC/ST Communities. They are clearly stung and stunned by the facts he presented, which is why they are now indulging in theatrics! Sadly, for them, people know the truth!” he said.
In contrast, the Prime Minister listed work done by his government to “fulfill the vision of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.”
“It is due to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar that we are what we are!” PM Modi said.
“Our Government has worked tirelessly to fulfil the vision of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar over the last decade. Take any sector – be it removing 25 crore people from poverty, strengthening the SC/ST Act, our Government’s flagship programmes like Swachh Bharat, PM Awas Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, Ujjwala Yojana and more, each of them has touched the lives of the poor and marginalised,” he added.
This comes a day after Shah, in his address in Rajya Sabha, said that taking BR Ambedkar’s name had become a “fashion” now.
“Abhi ek fashion ho gaya hai – Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. Itna naam agar bhagwan ka lete to saat janmon tak swarg mil jata (It has become a fashion to say Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar’. If they took God’s name so many times, they would have got a place in heaven),” Shah said.
“If people took God’s name as much, they would get a place in heaven,” he added.
“Take his name 100 times more, but I want to say what are your sentiments about him.”
Leading the Congress attack, party chief Mallikarjun Kharge accused Shah of opposing the Constitution made by Ambedkar and demanded his resignation.
“When Amit Shah was talking about Dr BR Ambedkar, he said ‘you people keep chanting the name of Ambedkar 100 times, if you took the name of God these many times, you would have gone to heaven 7 times’. This means that taking the name of Baba Saheb Ambedkar is a crime and his intention was to oppose the Constitution made by Baba Saheb Ambedkar,” Kharge said.
“I opposed this but I was not given the opportunity. Since proceedings of the House on Baba Saheb Ambedkar were underway, he decided to remain silent. I demand his resignation,” he added.
