Shrivalli Bhamidipaty sails into second round of ITF women’s tennis tournament

Shrivalli Bhamidipaty raced past Ekaterina Reyngold 6-4, 6-1 to set up a second round clash against Punnin Kovapitukted of Thailand in the $25,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament at the District Sports Complex on Wednesday.

Akanksha Nitture, Humera Baharmus and Laalitya were the other Indian players progressing into the second round on this day, and they all beat Indian opponents.

Ekaterina Kazionova saved three match points in the second set tie break to beat Zuzanna Pawlikowska of Poland 3-6, 7-6(6), 6-1. Zuzanna struggled with her serve and landed 17 double faults in the match.

Inter-Ministry Championship: Gogoi, Yadav register wins

Anshuman Gogoi and Shubham Yadav won their singles and doubles matches to help Ministry of Communication to a 3-1 victory over Delhi Audit in the final of the Inter-Ministry badminton championship at the AIIMS Gymkhana.

In the women’s final, Namita Pathania won her singles match and partnered Swati Sharma to win the doubles as well, in taking Delhi Audit to a 2-0 victory over Ministry of Communication.

Men (final): Ministry of Communication bt Delhi Audit 3-1 (Amit Saroch lost to Gaurav Deshwal 12-21, 10-21; Anshuman Gogoi bt Tushar Sharma 21-15, 21-18; Anshuman & Shubham Yadav bt Gaurav & Rajeev Sharma 21-12, 21-18; Shubham bt Himanshu Saroha 21-18, 21-17).

Third place:Railway Board bt Ministry of Health & Family Welfare 3-1 (Lalit Kumar Dhanker lost to Praveen Kumar 21-18, 19-21, 18-21; Neeraj bt Sumit Rana 21-19, 21-18; Neeraj & Deepak bt Gokul Das & Vishal 21-15, 21-17; Deepak bt Gokul 21-15, 21-14).

Women (final): Delhi Audit bt Ministry of Communication 2-0 (Namita Pathania bt Teenu Dahiya 21-12, 21-15; Namita & Swati Sharma bt Mayuri Yadav & Teenu 21-15, 21-17).
