Latrell may play Round 1 despite suspension amid schedule development
There’s a chance suspended Souths star Latrell Mitchell is available for his side’s Round 1 clash in 2025 following a reported development surrounding the Indigenous All Stars game.
Mitchell was hit with a one game ban and copped a $20,000 fine from the NRL for his role in the white substance saga in a Dubbo hotel room.
That ban was expected to be served in Round 1, 2025, yet Mitchell will be able to apply to serve his suspension for the Indigenious All Stars fixture – which he’s done successfully in the past.

The hurdle in Mitchell’s way is that the NRL is reportedly keen to move the usual start-of-season fixture until after the conclusion of the 2025 season.
However, according to theSMH, senior Indigneious players want the game to remain in February.
The NRL’s push for an October fixture instead of a February one was due to an idea to celebrate Indigenous contributions to the sport after the season ended.
As per NRL sources who spoke with the SMH, a plan was to have Queensland’s Murray Carnival, the popular Koori Knockout and the Indigenious All Stars games to be played in successive weekends.
Nothing has been finalised, but it’s firming that the All Stars game will stay put, which will be welcome news to Mitchell, as it gives him a chance to line up in the Bunnies’ opening game.
The Souths star is undergoing a stunning off-season transformation, having reportedly already lost 5kg as he readiness himself for a bounce back season under new Rabbitohs coach Wayne Bennett.
